Regions of Ethiopia

Every region tastes different. Altitude, soil and how the cherries are processed all shape the cup.

Featured

Jimma

Southwest Oromia · 1,400 – 2,100 m

Full body, earthy, dark cherry, low acidity

One of Ethiopia's largest coffee-growing areas. Most Jimma coffee is sun-dried as whole cherries, which gives a heavy, chocolatey cup that holds up well as espresso.

Sidama

South · 1,500 – 2,200 m

Citrus, berry, floral, bright

Smallholder farms across the highlands produce both washed and natural lots with a clean, lively cup.

Yirgacheffe

Gedeo, south · 1,700 – 2,200 m

Jasmine, lemon, bergamot, tea-like

The name most coffee drinkers know. Washed Yirgacheffe is delicate and floral, a classic for pour-over.

Guji

Southern Oromia · 1,800 – 2,300 m

Stone fruit, berry, sweet

High-grown and fruit-forward. Naturals from Guji are some of the sweetest coffees in the country.

Harrar

Eastern highlands · 1,500 – 2,100 m

Blueberry, mocha, spice

Dry-processed coffee with a wild, berry-rich character and a long history in the eastern trade routes.

Limu

Southwest, near Jimma · 1,400 – 2,200 m

Balanced, red fruit, gentle spice

Mostly washed, Limu sits between Jimma's weight and the south's brightness.

Kaffa

Southwest forests · 1,500 – 2,000 m

Herbal, complex, forest-grown

Where coffee grows wild in the forest, and where the story of coffee is said to begin.
